The Son of Promise

A. Angels deliver instruction
B. There are several instances in scripture to attest to this fact. Here are but a few:
Hebrews 13:2 ESV
2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
C. Joshua encountered man with his sword drawn, “Are you for us or against us?”
Joshua 5:13 ESV
13 When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing before him with his drawn sword in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?”
D. In Judges, to the wife of Manoah an angel delivers the news that Samson would be born.
Judges 13:6–11 ESV
6 Then the woman came and told her husband, “A man of God came to me, and his appearance was like the appearance of the angel of God, very awesome. I did not ask him where he was from, and he did not tell me his name, 7 but he said to me, ‘Behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. So then drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb to the day of his death.’ ” 8 Then Manoah prayed to the Lord and said, “O Lord, please let the man of God whom you sent come again to us and teach us what we are to do with the child who will be born.” 9 And God listened to the voice of Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman as she sat in the field. But Manoah her husband was not with her. 10 So the woman ran quickly and told her husband, “Behold, the man who came to me the other day has appeared to me.” 11 And Manoah arose and went after his wife and came to the man and said to him, “Are you the man who spoke to this woman?” And he said, “I am.”
E. We never know when we are entertaining angels.

Abraham and Sarah’s Laughter

A. Has anyone else been thinking about this sence last week? Lets take a brief look at it.
Romans 4:19 ESV
19 He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb.
B. Many of us may have thought his laughter was in jest or unfaithfulness but the scripture shows otherwise.
Hebrews 11:11–12 ESV
11 By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as many as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore.
C. It is the same with Sarah. She hid the fact of her laughter because of fear. She didn’t want to offend.

Abraham given a new Message

A. The men told Abraham of the plight of Sodom. Lot was there.
Psalm 25:14 ESV
14 The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant.
B. God shares with Abraham what is happening.
C. Abraham defends vs. 22-33

What is one thing you noticed about the conversations with God?
