Man is the special creation of God, made in His own image. He created them male and female as the crowning work of His creation. The gift of gender is thus part of the goodness of God’s creation. In the beginning man was innocent of sin and was endowed by his Creator with freedom of choice. By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. Through the temptation of Satan man transgressed the command of God, and fell from his original innocence whereby his posterity inherit a nature and an environment inclined toward sin. Therefore, as soon as they are capable of moral action, they become transgressors and are under condemnation. Only the grace of God can bring man into His holy fellowship and enable man to fulfill the creative purpose of God. The sacredness of human personality is evident in that God created man in His own image, and in that Christ died for man; therefore, every person of every race possesses full dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love.

Memory Verse

Genesis 1:27 CSB
So God created man in his own image; he created him in the image of God; he created them male and female.

Introduction

Genesis 2:7 CSB
Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.
The creation of man is God’s crowning act in all of creation. Everything was created for man, which is why God placed man in the position to have Dominion over all of creation.
Nothing else God created was ‘formed’. The picture of God literally using His hands to mold man, not speak man, into existence.
God ‘breathed the breath of life’ into man, resulting in man becoming a living being. This is unique to man alone.
The creation of man by God stands in stark contrast to secular theologies of evolution, chaos theory, and humanism. Any idea that man is the measure of all things is undone through creation, and spoken against in the Psalms.
Psalm 8:4 CSB
what is a human being that you remember him, a son of man that you look after him?

Man is made in God’s image

Image of God - our spiritual capacity and the ability to fellowship with God.
Both male and female are made in the image of God.
Genesis 1:27 CSB
So God created man in his own image; he created him in the image of God; he created them male and female.
Genesis 2:7 CSB
Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.
Colossians 3:10 CSB
and have put on the new self. You are being renewed in knowledge according to the image of your Creator.
Many verse speak of this. What it means is simple: we have a spiritual capacity and ability to fellowship with God. Nothing to do with physical appearance.
Deuteronomy 10:12 CSB
“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you except to fear the Lord your God by walking in all his ways, to love him, and to worship the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul?
It is that we are made in the image of God (remember the definition) that we are able to know and worship God.
Now, all of creation declares the Glory of God; but only humans have the conscience and ability to truly know God.
Our creation separates us from the rest of creation, and the redemption story of the Gospel is for the redemption of sinful man.
We are created in the image of God. This explains our innate desire to search for the spiritual world.
W.T. Conner
There is something in man that will now be satisfied with the temporal. Something in him cries our for the spiritual and the eternal. Man thirst for God in the midst of the visible and the transient, he reaches out after the invisible and the abiding. The Psalmist voices the universal cray of the human heart when he says ‘ as the deer pants for the water so pants my soul after you Lord. Wherever man have been found, they have had some form of religion. All races of man have cries out for God.

Male and Female

The gift of gender is part of the goodness of God’s creation.
Genesis 1:27 CSB
So God created man in his own image; he created him in the image of God; he created them male and female.
God’s glory is revealed in the revelation that HE created male and female distinctly; and yet we are UNITED in the reality that we are made in the image of God.
Gender reflects the goodness of Gods creation.
We are to celebrate TRUE masculinity and TRUE Femininity as GIFTS from God.
Gender is NOT social construct.
Gender is difference, but not difference in VALUE or personhood.

Fall from innocence

In the beginning man was innocent of sin and was endowed by His creator with freedom of choice.

In the Garden, man had no sin. No knowledge of sin.
God gave them dominion over everything. They were told to work the garden and to eat of it’s fruit - but not to eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil.
Genesis 2:16–17 CSB
And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree of the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die.”
As moral being, Adam and Eve had the choice - obey God or not.

By free choice, man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race.

Through the temptation of Satan, man transgressed the command of God and fell from his original innocence.

When temptation came, they ate the fruit which they were commanded to not eat.
The consequences of sin are beyond comprehension. Incalculable.
God cast Adam and Eve from the garden.
Genesis 3:23–24 CSB
So the Lord God sent him away from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken. He drove the man out and stationed the cherubim and the flaming, whirling sword east of the garden of Eden to guard the way to the tree of life.
Genesis 3:17–19 CSB
And he said to the man, “Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘Do not eat from it’: The ground is cursed because of you. You will eat from it by means of painful labor all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. You will eat bread by the sweat of your brow until you return to the ground, since you were taken from it. For you are dust, and you will return to dust.”
The consequences of sin include hard labor, painful child birth, sickness, cancer, death, the earth became hostile toward man.

Therefore, as soon as they are capable of MORAL ACTION, they become transgressors and are under condemnation.

We not born morally innocent. We are still moral agents, we have the capacity to choose. But now we must continually choose obedience or disobedience.
As soon as we are morally able to sin, we break God’s law and come under condemnation for our own sin. This is JUST.

Restoration to Fellowship with God

Human beings are dependent creatures. Babies to adult. We are dependent upon God.
Romans 5:6 CSB
For while we were still helpless, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly.
This was an act of GRACE.

ONLY the GRACE of God can bring man into His holy fellowship and enable man to fulfill the creative purpose of God.

Only God’s plan of redemption allows us to have fellowship with God.
Grace ALONE
God’s Reward at Christ’s Expense - by God’s grace we are restored to fellowship with God and are able to fulfill the purpose for which we were made.

The sacredness of human personality is evident in that God created man in His own Image, and in the Christ died for man; therefore every person of every race possesses full dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love.

1 Thessalonians 5:9 CSB
For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
John 3:16–17 CSB
For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
All who come to Christ will be saved.
Romans 10:13 CSB
For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Every race, tribe, tongue, people will be saved:
Revelation 5:9 CSB
And they sang a new song: You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slaughtered, and you purchased people for God by your blood from every tribe and language and people and nation.
