ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Baby Dedication
INTRO:
What if I told you that you could go from being bashful and shy to powerful and bold in your witness for Christ.
Would you want that?
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
What about abilities and powers to know and understand at a different level?
26 But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
Abilities to overcome things that have haunted you from your childhood?
The Holy Spirit gives you that ability.
11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
Christianity / Pastoring / Witnessing - is all very hard in our strength. We need to dwell with God.
Worship / Prayer
Reading Bible like it’s your last meal
Taking in good content (books, podcasts, etc)
2 hours and 24 minutes is a tithe of our day.
Yet the HS Tends to be the least talked about in churches, and the gifts He gives to the church to be victorious are even ridiculed and some have said are of the devil.
Be Careful of Blasphemy against the HS (JESUS Said…)
22 Then a demon-possessed man, who was blind and couldn’t speak, was brought to Jesus. He healed the man so that he could both speak and see.
23 The crowd was amazed and asked, “Could it be that Jesus is the Son of David, the Messiah?”
24 But when the Pharisees heard about the miracle, they said, “No wonder he can cast out demons. He gets his power from Satan, the prince of demons.”
25 Jesus knew their thoughts and replied, “Any kingdom divided by civil war is doomed. A town or family splintered by feuding will fall apart.
26 And if Satan is casting out Satan, he is divided and fighting against himself. His own kingdom will not survive.
27 And if I am empowered by Satan, what about your own exorcists? They cast out demons, too, so they will condemn you for what you have said.
28 But if I am casting out demons by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has arrived among you.
29 For who is powerful enough to enter the house of a strong man and plunder his goods? Only someone even stronger—someone who could tie him up and then plunder his house.
30 “Anyone who isn’t with me opposes me, and anyone who isn’t working with me is actually working against me.
31 “So I tell you, every sin and blasphemy can be forgiven—except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which will never be forgiven.
32 Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, either in this world or in the world to come.
33 “A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad.
34 You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.
35 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart.
36 And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak.
37 The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.”
Be Cautious! The Religious People of Jesus’ Day were Crediting the devil with the works of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus healed the man who could not speak or see
People say…Tongues passed away with the Bible, stating the Bible was the perfect. The perfect is when we will see Him face to face.
15 And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.
16 Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned.
17 These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages.
CHURCH HISTORY OF SPEAKING IN TONGUES
After the death of the Apostle John there was a decrease in the gifts but it has still been recorded and seen over the centuries.
Irenaeus - a disciple of John says in his book Against Heresies (pg6), “We have many brethren in the churches having prophetical gifts and by the Spirit speaking in all kinds of languages.”
Tertullian - 155AD-220AD "Let him exhibit prophets such as have spoken, not by human sense, but the Spirit of God, such as have predicted things to come, and have made manifest the secrets of the heart. Let him produce a psalm, a vision, a prayer, only let it be by the Spirit in an ecstacy, that is in a rapture, whenever an interpretation of tongues has occurred to him.” SMITH'S DICTIONARY OF THE BIBLE (Vol. 4 Page 3310)
St Augustine - 354AD-430AD “We still do what the apostles did when they laid hands on the Samaritans and called down the Holy Spirit on them by laying on of hands. It is expected that converts should speak with new tongues."
The Encyclopedia Britannica states that the glossolalia (or speaking in tongues) "recurs in Christian revivals of every age, e.g. among mendicant friars of the Thirteenth Century, among the Jansenists and early, Quakers, the persecuted Protestants of the Cevennes, and the Irivingites. (Vol. 27, page 9, 10, 11th edition)
Jansenists - a theological doctrine within the Roman Catholic Church which urged greater personal holiness, espoused and predestination
Irvingites - The Catholic Apostolic Church (CAC), also known as the Irvingian Church or Irvingite Church, is a denomination in the Restorationist branch of Christianity.
Philip Schaff - 1882, gives a considerable record of the speaking in other tongues in various revivals over a period of the speaking in various revivals over a period of many centuries.
6. Francis Xavier, according to Schaff and THE CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA, "Possessed a remarkable exercise of the gift of tongues."
7. Martin Luther - 1483-1546
8. John Wesley - 1703-1791
9. DL Moody - 1837-1899
BIBLICAL TYPES OF PRAYER LANGUAGES
Some prayers are for the Public
Some prayers are to be Private and Personal
1. Prayer Language as a sign for unbelievers
1 On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place.
2 Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting.
3 Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them.
4 And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.
5 At that time there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem.
6 When they heard the loud noise, everyone came running, and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers.
7 They were completely amazed. “How can this be?” they exclaimed. “These people are all from Galilee,
8 and yet we hear them speaking in our own native languages!
9 Here we are—Parthians, Medes, Elamites, people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, the province of Asia,
10 Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, and the areas of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome
11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism), Cretans, and Arabs. And we all hear these people speaking in our own languages about the wonderful things God has done!”
12 They stood there amazed and perplexed. “What can this mean?” they asked each other.
13 But others in the crowd ridiculed them, saying, “They’re just drunk, that’s all!”
This was a sign to unbelievers
Hearing the gospel in their own dialect
The crowd gathered after they started speaking in tongues; not before.
22 So you see that speaking in tongues is a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is for the benefit of believers, not unbelievers.

2. Prayer Language with Interpretation for Corporate Edification
10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said.
26 Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you.
27 No more than two or three should speak in tongues. They must speak one at a time, and someone must interpret what they say.
28 But if no one is present who can interpret, they must be silent in your church meeting and speak in tongues to God privately.
29 Let two or three people prophesy, and let the others evaluate what is said.
30 But if someone is prophesying and another person receives a revelation from the Lord, the one who is speaking must stop.
31 In this way, all who prophesy will have a turn to speak, one after the other, so that everyone will learn and be encouraged.
32 Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can take turns.
33 For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people.
Revelation vs 30 is illumination of what God is doing. Jesus said, “I am about my Father’s business.” How do you know His business?
18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
We are in a spiritual war and we need to support one another in prayer.

3. Prayer Language for Personal Edification
26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.
27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.
28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
2 For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious.
4 A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.
We are releasing council and wisdom
Not always immediate but we will see the results at some point
Sometimes praying for things you would have no idea about
God downloads and inspires with ideas and revelation while praying in Spirit
14 For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying.
15 Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit, and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand.
Satan can’t understand your heavenly language and respond to your prayers.
Intimacies with God through our prayer
ILLUSTRATION:
I love my cat Ninja, but I can not communicate with him on my level; I have to dum it down a bit. You would laugh at me. LOL
God has to come down to our level except for when we are praying in our prayer language. That boosts our intimacy with God. Paul learned this and spoke it all the time…for the intimacy and effectiveness.
unforgiveness or not asking in faith hinders our prayers.
There are a million voices against it
Don’t be double minded
it will restrict you
11 So now God will have to speak to his people through foreign oppressors who speak a strange language!
12 God has told his people, “Here is a place of rest; let the weary rest here. This is a place of quiet rest.” But they would not listen.
Rest and Refreshing
We hear from God when we quiet our hearts; that happens when we pray in tongues.
Our Mind has a tendency to wander when we pray sometimes. The disciples could not tarry even one hour.
28 But if no one is present who can interpret, they must be silent in your church meeting and speak in tongues to God privately.
