The Aftermath of conflict, Pt. I (Lesson 24) 8/27/24
Introduction:
Introduction:
* We have looked at the conflict through the ages, now in our next couple of lessons we will look at the results of the conflict through the ages.
* Consequences of the conflict between Satan and Jesus Christ the Son of God.
* I think maybe a quick review of the last few lessons, points to note down for our future use of the material.
* Cain and Able (Gen4)
* Daughters of men and sons of God (Gen6)
* Barren womb and abundant promise (Gen17)
* Famine and family (Gen41-47)
* Pharoah and the enslaved people (Exo1)
* Evil attempts and David (1Sam16)
* Devilish woman and the royal seed (2Kings11)
* Death and Hezekiah (2Kings18-20)
* Wicked Haman and Jewish remnant (Est1-7)
* Herod and the infant slaughter (Mt2)
* Satan and Jesus (Mt4)
* Jews and Jesus, the Christ, the Lord (Act2)
At every step along the way to destroy the seed of woman, every plot to stop God’s scheme of redemption by Satan, it was thwarted, halted by the Living and True God.
Aim:
Aim:
* To look at the bruising and the binding of Satan
* To further appreciate our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, and His power
Outline:
Outline:
The Savior’s power as seen by His claims
* Jesus claimed that He was stronger than Satan, stronger than the strong man. (Mt12:24-30, Lk11:14-23)
24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “This man casts out demons only by Beelzebul the ruler of the demons.” 25 And knowing their thoughts Jesus said to them, “Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and any city or house divided against itself will not stand. 26 “If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand? 27 “If I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? For this reason they will be your judges. 28 “But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29 “Or how can anyone enter the strong man’s house and carry off his property, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house. 30 “He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters.
* Spoils Satan’s goods (Mk3:27) meaning to completely plunder.
27 “But no one can enter the strong man’s house and plunder his property unless he first binds the strong man, and then he will plunder his house.
* Divides his kingdom (Jn8:32-33)
*You shall know the truth and be free, you are not free just being Abraham’s seed.
* Binds him: meaning to put in chains or fetters.
Note: Carefully consider that death by sin was the Devil’s power (1Jn3:8) Jesus being stronger frees enslaved, frees sinful man (ref: Heb2:14ff)
8 the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.
Jesus claimed that Satan has no power over Him (Jn14:30)
Ruler of the world is coming and has nothing over Me.
* Being sinless negates Satan’s power (Heb2:9-18; and note down 4:15, 7:25)
9 But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. 10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings. 11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 saying, “I will proclaim Your name to My brethren, In the midst of the congregation I will sing Your praise.” 13 And again, “I will put My trust in Him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children whom God has given Me.” 14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. 16 For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham. 17 Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.
* The Cross was Gods predetermined plan, it was not merely the Devil’s plot (Jn10:17-18)
17 “For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again. 18 “No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.”
* Satan was absolutely powerless - Jesus claims so --and fell in feat underneath the “heel” of the victorious Christ. According to the Promise of God ( just ref this for now: Rev1:17-18)
Note: No one took Jesus life from Him, he willingly laid it down for man (Jn19:30, 7:30, 8:20, 12:23, 27)
The Saviors power was demonstrated on the cross
* The power of the cross (Jn12:31-33, Rom1:16-17; 1Cor1:18-2:2)
Judgment is on this world
The power of God is the gospel
The cross is the wisdom to those being saved.
* The power confirmed by the resurrection (Jn14:18-20, 16:17-24; Rom1:4)
* He burst out of the grave (Mt28:1-7)
* Death could not hold Him (Act2:23-24)
* Jesus took all of Satan’s power from him, as the conqueror and victor (Heb2:14-15; 1Jn3:8; Rev1:17-18)
Conclusion:
Conclusion:
* Jesus is Master, His claims proclaim it
* Jesus is Lord, His cross declares it
* Jesus the Nazarene is the crucified, resurrected Savior and Lord, the only Begotten Son of God.

Introduction:
Introduction:
* Jesus Christ, claim and fulfillment by the Cross and the Crown brought a fatal blow to Satan’s power
* We will look at the predicament of Satan from the outcome of his conflict through the ages with the Lord Jesus Christ .
Aim:
Aim:
* To show that Satan was defeated, and to note the completeness of His defeat by Jesus.
* To summarize the conflict betwen Satan and Jesus.
Outline:
Outline:
Satan’s defeat is seen en every conflict with Christ as we looked at in the introduction to the last lesson (Lesson 24)
* Defeated in all temptations (ref: Mt4:1-11; and Lk4:1-13; then read: 1Cor15:55-58; and then ref: Heb4:14-15)
55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; 57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.
* If you want to read a great lesson, symbolic picture, an exciting presentation than read (Rev12:9ff, 17:14, 19:11-16)
Satan’s defeat is complete and definite
* Death blow delivered at Calvary (Col2:14-15)
14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.
* The Serpent’s works are destroyed, no longer having power over death for those in Christ Jesus (Heb2:14-15; just ref again: 1Jn3:8)
We have noted Heb2:14-15 before now we need to read it.
14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
* Satan has no claim on Christ, nor those who have been cleansed by His blood, accepting His salvation (Rom8:1-3, 38-39) other scriptures to look up and consider (Rom16:19-20, 1Jn5:18; Eph6:10-18)
1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,
Then
38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Conclusion:
Conclusion:
Jesus Christ while tempted was sinless and death could not hold Him (ref: Heb2:15; and 1Cor15:56, Act2:24)
24 “But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.
* It was by Christ’s death on the cross that brought Satan’s power to naught (ref:Heb2:14)
* Satan’s plans was spoiled by the sacrificial death of Jesus on the Cross (ref: Heb2:15, 9:15; and Col2:15-16)
* It was on the cross that Jesus bruised Satan’s head (his power and authority) and bruised His own heal (dying Himself in the sinner’s stead) (Rom5:1-11; 2Cor5:19-20)
We are reconciled, justified, set free
* Christ has complete victory, total triumph over Satan and his forces of evil (ref: Col2:14-15; Rev1:17-18)
17 When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. And He placed His right hand on me, saying, “Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, 18 and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.
* Finally, God’s purpose and promise is fulfilled in the redemptive act of Jesus Christ on the cross (ref: 1Jn3:8) .
That is a lot to take in, and believe it or not you are now 1/2 way through this course. I would like you to each take some time, look back, reflect on what you have been learning, how is this going to help you in your ministry work.
