If you have your Bibles please turn to
let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
This morning for service something special is happening. Mr. Dwayne is going to be baptized today because God gave him a new heart. So we are going to take a few mintues to talk about what baptism is.
What does it mean to be baptized? Why do you think as believer we should be baptized.
The first and most imortant reason to be baptized is because it brings us closer to God. When we go to God and we believe in Jesus with our full hearts, then we need to be born again. We need to be baptized in order to be born again. Then we are brought into the family of God like we talked about during vaction Bible school. We are made a new person when we are baptized.
The next reason we get baptized is because we are professing our faith in Jesus in front of everyone. We are telling everyone that we believe in Jesus and we are faithful to Jesus. We believe that Jesus saved us and that He will come back for us.
It is a very special day anytime anyone deciedes to be baptized. We need to celebrate the person for making the decision and encourage them to keep going in their faith. We need to be there for each other help each other make these big decisions.
