Introduction
General: As a kid, I loved the Mission Impossible movies… “Your mission, should you choose to accept it…” If I hear those words, I’m ready to accept the mission before they even say what it is!
Biblical: Jesus gave us a mission: Matthew 28:18-20… To follow Jesus together for the glory of God and the common good.
Review: How do we make disciples? How do we accomplish our mission?
We need the right mindset.
It’s only ever always all about Jesus.
It’s not a suggestion… It’s not an idea to consider but a command to obey.
It happens in here AND out there.
We need the right methods.
Baptizing them
Immerse people into the life and community of Jesus.
Like a DTR with Jesus… My wedding ring is a sign of my DTR with Corinne; my baptism is a sign of my DTR with Jesus.
Teaching them to obey God… 10% instruction; 90% practice and feedback.
This week: How do we make disciples together?

We need the right mindset:

Explanation
Do mentoring, not just marketing.
2 and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.
See ourselves as Christian community, not just a Christian organization.
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
Be kin, not just consumers.
8 so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.
Application: A home or a hotel?
We need the right methods:
Create environments, not just programs.
Illustration: We tried to start garden vegetables from seeds…
Explanation: We cannot program discipleship. Instead, we can create environments where discipleship happens.

46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”
Take what God is doing in here out there and share it.
That may not look like doing a big event in our church parking lot.
It may look like… watching a football game // grabbing a coffee // going for a family bike ride // hosting a block party // volunteering at a local food pantry or the CareNet Pregnancy Center.
Conclusion
Conclusion
If baptism is a DTR with Jesus, membership is a DTR with the church.
We want to be filled with the Spirit, live by the Word, and belong to one another as spiritual family.
We love God completely and strive to love others unconditionally.
We want to live the way of Jesus because we believe it’s the best way to live—not just for us but for the good of those around us.
We value grace and humility, extending forgiveness, giving people the benefit of the doubt, choosing to believe the best about one another, apologizing when we’ve messed up.
We want to be whole in Christ, spiritually healthy, emotionally healthy, mentally healthy, and physically healthy.
We want to be salt and light in the world, bringing out the flavor of God’s love in everyone we meet.
Example: Someone from our church lost their job and needed prayer…
Membership, DTR with the church: Our next membership class is November 3.
