Psalm 119:25–32 (ESV)
25 My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to your word! 26 When I told of my ways, you answered me; teach me your statutes! 27 Make me understand the way of your precepts, and I will meditate on your wondrous works. 28 My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word! 29 Put false ways far from me and graciously teach me your law! 30 I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I set your rules before me. 31 I cling to your testimonies, O Lord; let me not be put to shame! 32 I will run in the way of your commandments when you enlarge my heart!

What verse or verses stick out to you? Why?
v.25 “My soul clings to the dust: give me life according to Your Word”
Man was formed from dust. To say your soul clings to dust means that you're saying that you are so low that you feel as though you don't even exist or that there is no life in you.
V. 28 “My soul melts away for sorrow, strengthen me according to Your Word”
Isaiah 41:10 comes to mind when I read this verse “ fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
V. 29-32 29 Put false ways far from me and graciously teach me your law! 30 I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I set your rules before me. 31 I cling to your testimonies, O Lord; let me not be put to shame! 32 I will run in the way of your commandments when you enlarge my heart!
This, to me, means you’re asking God to guard you from false ways but how is that done? This is done by growth of wisdom and the only way to grow wisdom is through prayer and the studying of God’s Word. Theres a condition to all of this though…If your heart inst right or if you aren’t faithful meaning that you fully trust in Him, the bible is just words. However, as verse 30 and 31 says “I have chosen to be faithful, I’m putting Your commandments above myself, I’m putting you first”
V. 32 “I will run in the way of Your commandments when you enlarge my heart.”
When you are faithful, when you pray, and when you abide in Him, His Words will teach you. The Holy Spirit that dwells within you will convict you. Our job is to do what we are called to do. Everyone is called in a different way for different purposes according to His will. Jeremiah 29:11 “11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Run the race He has called you to run. When you feel defeated, remember God’s Word and His promises because they will pull you through anything you’re going against.
E- Explain
What is the main message of this section of Scripture?
Illustration- Imagine you’re climbing a steep mountain. At first, you’re full of energy, confident, and excited. But as you go higher, the air gets thinner, the rocks get sharper, and your legs start to feel like they’re made of lead. You slip, fall to your knees, and suddenly, you’re lying in the dirt, exhausted, and unsure if you can keep going. You’ve got dust all over you, and you start to wonder, Is it even worth continuing? Should I just give up?Just when you feel like quitting, your guide—someone who has been up this mountain many times before—reaches out their hand. They say, "I know this is hard. But you’re not alone. I’ll help you find the right path and give you the strength to make it." They point to a better route, one you couldn’t see before because you were too tired to notice. You take their hand, stand up, and with their guidance, you find the strength to keep climbing, one step at a time. As you go, you start to feel lighter and more confident, trusting your guide to lead you all the way to the top.
You are like the climber in this story—sometimes life gets tough, and you feel like you’re “laid low in the dust” (v. 25), too tired or discouraged to keep going.
God is your guide. His word is like the hand that helps you up, giving you strength when you feel weak (v. 28) and showing you the right path when you’re not sure which way to go (v. 32).
The Bible is like the map that helps you stay on the right path, guiding you away from mistakes or "deceitful ways" (v. 29) and towards a life full of meaning and purpose, rooted in God’s truth.
Another thing to consider...
Have you ever let the “old you” out? When you did this how did you feel afterwards? How did you feel when you did your own thing knowing that it went against God’s commandments? When that happened, how did your day start? Did you start your day off by going through the motions or did you start your day off in His Word? The more you abide in Him the greater chance you have to remain faithful and obedient.
A- Apply
How can you apply this to your life?
By abiding in Him. By not being afraid to ask for increased wisdom and a restored soul. Praying for renewal as well as protection against false ways/temptation. God knows how you feel and what you’re thinking, still tell Him. Pour out your heart and soul to Him.
R- Respond
Take the index card I gave at the beginning of the lesson and stick it in your Bible. Everyday, take the index card out and pray about what you wrote down. Also, try to find at least three verses at a minimum that either tells you how to get thru something, deal with something, or improve on and write them down on that index cards. A good practice is to do this once a week. Save the cards so that when you are going thru a similar experience or someone you know is going thru that you can have something to refer back to.
