In as much as today is Communion Sunday we’re going to see the connection
from the Exodus and the Passover Supper
to The Lord’s Supper and Garden of Gethsemane,
and then finally the future fulfillment of it all in The Wedding Feast of the Lamb.
In doing that we’ll also see the prophetic connections
from the Old Testament and
how they tie into the 7 Bowls of Wrath,
Revelation 19:10 NASB95
Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
All prophetic words find their ultimate fulfillment somehow in Jesus.
All prophetic words somehow point to Christ.
So we want to see some of that today.
Finally, we’ll see
The response of those who are judged in the 7 Bowls of Wrath,
The final response of the believer as a result of this all.
Read Revelation 19:1-10
We’re going to start this morning looking at the 7 Bowls of Wrath.

7 Bowls of Wrath

Great Tribulation - the last 3.5 years.
Daniel 12:1 NASB95
“Now at that time Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people, will arise. And there will be a time of distress such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time; and at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the book, will be rescued.
Joel 2:30–32 NASB95
“I will display wonders in the sky and on the earth, Blood, fire and columns of smoke. “The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood Before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. “And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the Lord Will be delivered; For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem There will be those who escape, As the Lord has said, Even among the survivors whom the Lord calls.
The eternal Gospel proclaimed by an angel flying in mid-heaven.
Primarily the ones who escape are the Jews, as the whole point of this time in earth’s history is that the church, that is Jew and Gentile, are gone, due to the rapture, and
He is returning to His final work among His chosen people, the Jewish nation, to bring about the final fulfillment of His physical promises given to Abraham.
Romans 11:25–26 NASB95
For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery—so that you will not be wise in your own estimation—that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.”
Isaiah 59:20–21 NASB95
“A Redeemer will come to Zion, And to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” declares the Lord. “As for Me, this is My covenant with them,” says the Lord: “My Spirit which is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your offspring, nor from the mouth of your offspring’s offspring,” says the Lord, “from now and forever.”
Justice Promised - This is a Main Theme.
Revelation 6:9–11 NASB95
When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained; and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, would be completed also.
Psalm 94:1–3 NASB95
O Lord, God of vengeance, God of vengeance, shine forth! Rise up, O Judge of the earth, Render recompense to the proud. How long shall the wicked, O Lord, How long shall the wicked exult?
Revelation 16:5–7 NASB95
And I heard the angel of the waters saying, “Righteous are You, who are and who were, O Holy One, because You judged these things; for they poured out the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink. They deserve it.” And I heard the altar saying, “Yes, O Lord God, the Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.”
Justice Delivered - The Wrath of God poured out
Revelation 16:1 NASB95
Then I heard a loud voice from the temple, saying to the seven angels, “Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God.”
Nahum 1:2 NASB95
A jealous and avenging God is the Lord; The Lord is avenging and wrathful. The Lord takes vengeance on His adversaries, And He reserves wrath for His enemies.
The Bowls of Wrath Poured Out
Ugly and painful sores break out on people
All sea life is destroyed
All fresh water is destroyed
The world’s climate is altered so that the sun scorches people
Unusual darkness comes over the earth
Euphrates River dries up—preparation for Armageddon
Worst earthquake in the history of mankind

The Response Of The Judged

Unrepentant
Revelation 16:9 NASB95
Men were scorched with fierce heat; and they blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues, and they did not repent so as to give Him glory.
Revelation 16:11 NASB95
and they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores; and they did not repent of their deeds.
Revelation 16:21 NASB95
And huge hailstones, about one hundred pounds each, came down from heaven upon men; and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, because its plague was extremely severe.
Even in these judgments God is giving them an opportunity to repent.
He has already proclaimed the eternal Gospel through an angel.
We see a foreshadowing prophecy of this in Psalm 2
Psalm 2:10–12 NASB95
Now therefore, O kings, show discernment; Take warning, O judges of the earth. Worship the Lord with reverence And rejoice with trembling. Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way, For His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!
So many people claim God is not loving or fair for sending people to hell.
Revelation 2:21 NASB95
‘I gave her time to repent, and she does not want to repent of her immorality.
2 Peter 3:9 NASB95
The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
But God knows what’s in a person.
He knows whether they will choose Him or not.
John 2:24–25 NIV84
But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men. He did not need man’s testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man.
Which is also why God knows those who are His. And this is a comforting thought.
2 Timothy 2:19 NASB95
Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.”

After These Things (19:1-6)

This is where we start to see the first connection of the Exodus and the Passover Supper with the Lord’s Supper and the Wedding Feast of the Lamb.
In the end analysis, the Passion Week of Jesus and the events of Revelation are very reminiscent of the Exodus. And rightly so.
Even the story of the Exodus is a prophetic story of the whole story of God.
A leader who thinks he is God.
Pharaoh, Antichrist, Pharisees
Plagues/signs that show him he’s not.
10 Plagues on Egypt, Bowls of Wrath, Darkness and earthquake at crucifixion
Death as a result of his rebellion.
Death of first-born humans and animals. The Battle of Armageddon, and death of Judas
God’s people - Israel persecuted.
Slavery and kill all male babies, Antichrist kills saints, Disciples persecuted.
God delivers His people from the hands of the false god.
Moses. Jesus. Holy Spirit.
God brings His people out of the land of slavery and into the promised land (millennial reign)
Moses. Jesus.
And when God brought them out of Egypt, and through the Red Sea what did they do?
Moses wrote a song and the people sang praises of their deliverance.
Exodus 15:1–2 NASB95
Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the Lord, and said, “I will sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted; The horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea. “The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation; This is my God, and I will praise Him; My father’s God, and I will extol Him.
And as such, so we see the same thing here. Upon God’s deliverance of His people from Babylon the Great and soon the unholy Trinity, we see a fourfold Hallelujah reminiscent of the Hallels sung during the Passover meal.
And out of the Exodus came the Passover seder meal where the Hallel’s (praise) of Egypt (Psalm 113-118) came to have a special role in the Feast of the Passover because of the references in them to the Exodus.
In fact 19:5 is taken in part from Psalm 113 and 115.
The Hallel was most certainly what Jesus and the disciples sang after the Passover / Communion meal before going out to the Mount of Olives the night of His death.

Four-Fold Hallelujah

Hallelujah 1: Salvation and glory and power belong to our God.
His judgments are true and righteous.
Babylon the Great has been judged.
The blood of the martyrs has been avenged.
Everyone said: Amen and Hallelujah!
Hallelujah 2: Her smoke rises up forever and ever.
Almost like incense of remembrance.
But in metaphor it is a reminder that there will never be injustice, unrighteousness, corruption, immorality, lies, or death ever again.
Everyone said: Amen and Hallelujah!
Hallelujah 3: Response: Amen and Hallelujah - God is worthy of our praise!
There is none too great nor too small who cannot praise Him.
Everyone said: Amen and Hallelujah!
Hallelujah 4: For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.
God is our God.
The Almighty God now fulfills His promise and reigns physically on earth.
Let us rejoice and be glad and give glory to Him.
The marriage of the Lamb has come
Her bride has made herself ready.
Everyone said: Amen and Hallelujah!

The Marriage Supper of the Lamb (19:9-10)

Connecting the Marriage Supper, The Exodus / Passover, and Bowls of Wrath.
Luke 22:15–18 NASB95
And He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I say to you, I shall never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He said, “Take this and share it among yourselves; for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.”
At the Last Supper He stops drinking and eating of this Feast. At the marriage, He eats again.
Exodus 6:6–7 NASB95
“Say, therefore, to the sons of Israel, ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from their bondage. I will also redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. ‘Then I will take you for My people, and I will be your God; and you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
Third cup - I will redeem you. outstretched arms and great judgments. Moses and the plagues…7 Bowls.
Fourth cup - I will take you as my people. Rev 21:3
Revelation 21:3 NASB95
And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,
It’s possible Jesus did not drink the 4th cup, but left it on the table to then go and drink the 5th cup...
5th cup - the cup of wrath upon the nations.
The 7 Bowls of Wrath that we see here in Revelation.
This is the fulfillment of that 5th cup.
Jesus took the 5th cup into the Garden of Gethsemane.
Matthew 26:39 NASB95
And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.”
Matthew 26:42 NASB95
He went away again a second time and prayed, saying, “My Father, if this cannot pass away unless I drink it, Your will be done.”
He took the cup so that we wouldn’t have to.
Ephesians 2:1–3 NASB95
And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.
Ephesians 2:4–7 NASB95
But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
This is why in celebrating the Lord’s Supper, he says it this way:
1 Corinthians 11:26 NASB95
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
Communion is a reminder that death is still an enemy.
Communion is a reminder that Jesus died in our place.
Communion is a reminder that His death satisfied the wrath of God for sin.
It is a reminder that Jesus drank the vial of the wrath of God so we wouldn’t have to go through the last 3.5 years.
It is a reminder that we also won’t face the wrath of God for eternity like those who worship Satan will face.
It is also a reminder that He is coming again.
And when He comes, He is bringing victory and new life.
When He comes death dies forever.
Finally, communion is a reminder that at the Last Supper He is going to His death, But at the Wedding Supper of the Lamb, He is bringing an end to death.
Pass out both elements during Communion song: Revelation Song.
Immediately after this is the Second Coming of Christ (Rev 19:11).
And we no longer will take communion as a memorial meal proclaiming Christ’s death.
We will be eating at His Wedding Feast in joy of His presence celebrating life forevermore.
We will be singing the fourfold Hallelujah and many other praise songs to the Lamb.
Hallelujahs!
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God.
Everyone said: Amen and Hallelujah!
God is worthy of our praise!
Everyone said: Amen and Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.
Everyone said: Amen and Hallelujah!
There will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying or pain, for the first things have passed away!
Everyone said: Amen and Hallelujah!
