Cymatic Christianity
What happens when you want to celebrate the birthday of a person that you love who has been shaped over the past few weeks a month by a significant idea that you want to try to connect with and get the right present for that. Significant person for me is Michelle she's celebrating her birthday this weekend and that's significant idea that she has been engaged in for a while now is called a residence resonance. It's like this thing. This group that was gathered by this. I was like Luther Seminary a friend of ours, Lily Grant and still got a bunch of his friends together and they started reading books and, you know, talking and trying to figure out how in the world we are supposed to engage or resonate with a culture that has he's really like like problems that are really be more relevant to the community at large so she's been engaged in that so she's been away sometimes. They've been at these like Gatherings and reading these books and one of the books that she read Even though it was like optional, she found out later with you just like this thick and I was like asking her a lot about it because obviously it was something she was into enough to actually complete it. The title of this book is resonance a sociology of our relationship to the world and it's written by this sociology Professor, not a religion Professor or an ordained person. He is not even like a believing Christian or anything like that. He's a sociologist. And he teaches sociology and he is, his name is Hormel to Rosa. Rosa is really what she was saying all the time. But this guy was like, trying to uncover. These ideas about how our world is alienated. Our relationships are broken. And so, he's exploring this idea that there are these kinds of relationships that he calls resonance relationships and they can be a constructive force to heal. What is destructive an hour? Modern Age where people are isolated and lonely and alienated. So, as I listened fully with great compassion and interest in her description of the spoken, trying to work this book out and what it meant, I heard the word resonance and I'm like yeah that's a science word so I'm thinking of the science of sound, something of the physics concept of resonance and I'm like yeah that's not really, that's not really applicable. Here in like these relationships is not really describing the physics physics, it's these relationships and I'm like, yeah, but the physics. It's really interesting. So I was fixated on the physics of sound and was like, totally taken off track many times cuz I was trying to find the perfect gift, that would bring the two ideas together. So she could understand the physics of resonance and it would be meaningful and that she I hear that I heard at least some of this book and how she learned from it and I got way like off in my spare time it was like last minute I had the card printed out and stuff that I made and so I'm giving this gift and the gift was actually broke and I got a long time ago, didn't look at it and it was broken and it was just like a disaster that's par for the course for me. Usually, my death are terrible. So just so, you know, don't ask me for a gift, so but the science is amazing. Residence is easy. Residence in physics is when a wave and another wave and it could be sound. Could be water to be all kinds of different materials they when they, they can amplify each other. So like increase the amplitude of the wave and can make it more energetic. And so this amplification can cause structural breakdown and it's powerful. Like you probably see what maybe not on YouTube, you can play find a video of somebody singing a pitch or a tone that will shatter glass. Have you ever seen on right now? You can't do that, right? That's how powerful resins can be. I've showed you the picture of cross the Bay Bridge that was like wavy, right? It was wavy because of wind and other and the earthquake that was 90, something like that. And this bridge collapse, it looks sturdy and strong, but it collapsed because there was a resonance frequency that was matching the material basically It's a residence is a powerful force and where are most familiar with it? Because it creates standing waves, Noah standing waves. All right. You do you know what standing waves are? Because we got music that we listen to in here all the time. The way these tones are created and it's clear as like with a string instrument makes no sense. Is that when the frequency is free to buy a standing wave, if you want the physics formula, I'll be happy to show you. It's a really amazing thing because waves will normally like alter be altered by. You can pluck a string and there's all kinds of waves, but with standing waves, and this is the way the instruments designed, the tone remains. Incredible night and be standing waves and resonance to be so powerful that it can literally shape matter. So, what do I mean by that? You can change the way matter behave. And it looks like it's almost magical. I mean, it looks. It does look like magic is like, if I try to describe it to you, you will be like, yeah, whatever Matthews know, you need to get off, Tik Tok videos, right? I mean, but this is a physics thing and I want to show it to you because these guys are so amazing, like I came across this and I was like, oh my gosh, you're amazing. They're musicians and scientist, and they're conducting these experiments and including it in their music. So you'll be looking for a cloudy plates, right? Maybe some of, you know, what? That is a plasma ball. That use a fire that use water to use a Tesla coil. And so, look at what they've done with these actual experiments incorporating into their music.
Show me where about to see has no characters.
if you spare a little of your imagination, is appealing to describe to you. The effect of cymatic frequencies.
Everything. OS systems. Solely.
The song.
Pretty cool, huh? Yeah. So I forgot to mention the plasma ball there. That was also another. One of the things that they died and when they first started like taking off the hoodies and they're like no hair. I thought all my gosh is like white supremacist group that I'm about to show in church, I can't do that. But what they were doing is because of the Tesla coil they were using. That's what they had created. That sort of electricity on passport. Father, he could projects like the electricity like over long distances so that he kind of created this structure that creates this free energy and like, like it brings it from around and it actually will concentrate it like that and it discharges. And so they had these like, Faraday cages that they were putting on. So they didn't get electrocuted. And that guy was not grounded who jumped up so he definitely probably got little heart, palpitation there. I'm having the electricity going through him fo, you know, whatever for our you make sacrifices like that. But it's nice isn't it? This is sound creating an effect on matter. So the chladni plate is that the beginning, those shapes, where they put stand on it, and our town that will consistently make shapes. You can understand why. Ancient, every ancient culture, even our culture has a place for sale in it religious cultures have sound a chance. Like that's always been a part of religion. Even in Christianity, monasteries are chance type button Buddhist monks, say ohm and that will make my body plate, a certain like image, and its that image that you see in mandalas basically like, for you placing them, right? Like that, it looks like a flower but it's like being created all the time. It's a really cool thing that happens. So my question is like why is this thing that is with us all the time but seems like it's insignificant and has no power. I'm you guys, listen to music all the time you're not changing. Are you at your mother is not being changed in this way or that way. Maybe you're hearing is no, but I know how loud it is being produced by. You're not changing. So this like seemingly benign kind of like week thing, that's all around us all the time. How can it have that kind of effect on matter? It's incredible if you understand resonance cuz that's what's happening here. I think Paul would have some interesting things to say about that little performance. He would be amazed at what he saw but he would also connect with ideas that probably you know, it makes a lot of sense to. So we are, this is the last word of part of Ephesians that we're going to look at. And it says letter that Paul has been that we've been looking through and it's where Paul really clarifies what he thinks is going on in reality. He thinks that creation New Creation has exploded into the old and when does overlap, that's all. I showed you the, you know, the diagram last week. So we're in the midst of its overlap. And what has happened in this time is we are basically Matter changes who would be the image that I want you to connect with? You are 8, cymatic. Christian cymatics is the study of how matter is shaped by sounds. And so that's who you are. Paul might say, with our modern lingo, we're call to be people who are forced to do the same thing that Paul did. Andre think they're his belief about what God was doing in the world cuz it changed. And we talked about last week how he had a very certain view of like this is creation Now and there's going to be a break day of the Lord and the new creation start. But somehow there's an overlap and that's what freaked him out and why he took time away before he started engaging in his mission to the Gentiles. He was rethinking this whole story of God. Resurrection was not supposed to happen in the middle of time, right? This apocalypse that he experiences revelation of Jesus that he experienced the living Jesus, that he experienced completely changed his world. And I had implications for how he lives and how he taught others to live. Because of this, this is what we need to think about now. And so we're coming to this passage that is familiar and sometimes maybe over-familiar it's super cool as a child or kid learning the passage and I was like this is awesome and I want to study the Bible and you know you would get little kids with you know you'll see what the passages you can understand why little boys would love this. And you know Christian Supply trade, some really weird toys around this particular thing that we're about to read and I'm either cool but it's kind of yeah the it doesn't really make sense. Ephesians chapter 6 verses 10 through 20. Listen for God's word to you. A final word, be strong in the Lord. And in his mighty power, put all of God's armor on so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities. So these are like the personal and I'll say it again later that what Paul thinks of, as like, like actual beings that you will call me be demons or something like that, that's how he explains those rulers and authorities and the Unseen World and against Mighty Powers, the powers and principalities are the structures in society that we have created that are inherently on. Just these are the things that were all like participating in just by being a community together, in this city, in this country in this world. And so he thinks there's this Force. Kind of takes on a life of its own. Our powers and authorities that we have submitted ourselves to and are called in some ways to stand against. So we have the personal and we have the impersonal. Both are at work in Paul's mind not the people but these forces Against the mighty powers in this dark world and against evil spirits, and other personal term. In the Heavenly places. Paul was a Mystic, I mean, he had a mystical experience that changed his whole entire existence and his whole religious understanding that had guided him all his life, that experience of the resurrected Jesus on the road to Damascus, was profound for him. Verse 13. Therefore put on every piece of God's armor on this list that he's about to go through, doesn't come out of nowhere, right? He's in prison, he sees the guards and the kind of armor but also he knows his Isaiah passages. And so he's going to pull image is from Isaiah, that refer to God and what God has and Isaiah 59 11:40 9:52. So he's pulling from different chapters here so that you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle, you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground. Putting on the and can we go to different pieces belt of truth and the body armor of God's righteousness, for our shoes? Put on the piece that comes from the good news so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of Faith, right? I remember to tell Shield to 50 field of Faith to stop the fiery, arrows of the devil, put on salvation as your helmet and take the sword of the spirit which is the word of God. Pray in the spirit at all times. And on every occasion, stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all. Believers everywhere. And pray for me to ask God to give me the right words so that I can boldly explain God's mysterious plan. And the good news is for the Jews and Gentiles alike. So, I am in Chains now. Still preaching this message as God's Ambassador. So I pray that I will be but I will keep on speaking boldly for him as I should. There are a lot of images here that come right from Isaiah but he is suggesting and Isaiah actually end up staying that these things, these attributes, these Warrior like things that God has and is described are being given to Christ and the new Humanity within Christ. It's a really profound image and striking that he ends here with I'm in Chains. So again, it's like what is the week he possibly do? I mean, you're using is very physical images of war and battle but you're in Chains. You bossed, right? I mean what are you trying to say here, Paul? Cuz those things are contradictory you're not out fighting, you're in Chains. But he doesn't think that is the situation fuzzy. He's in Chains. And he's still fighting, how can this be? Because the battle is not physical against flesh and blood. The bottle is spiritual and he is engaged and major conflict. That's what's going on with him. He is speaking the word. So, again, like music, it seems like it's week. Like, it doesn't have a profound effect, but he's speaking words and other passages. He says, he's singing Psalms. He encourages the communities to sing. He is connected with what? I think he would like totally understand what was going on there. he would know that words have a power power of their own, the ability to actually fight, even if you are chains, physically, How well these words that sprayer this connection to God make on a different? They actually change things. Paul would think it's this is like a thing that's hard for us pastors to describe and we'd like use the same people all the time, like Desmond, Tutu and Martin Luther King Jr. And the words that you're provoked at the street social change and the things that they were able to do in the idea that they spread. But here's another thing that I came across that I think it'll make you cry and makes me cry every time. Just think about it but it's powerful. This is an example. I think Paul is trying to get us to understand here. It's an example of what happens when we understand the power of sounds of words of speaking into creation, creating something new out of something that wasn't there. Before I show you a video. There's this group the most like ridiculous thing ever happens. Okay. That they have an idea and they're like, hey there, other name is cooloola and Hebrew group and and Muslims and their, you know, and is real and they're like, hey what if we get a bunch of people together and sing? All right. What if we sing together me and all kind of kind of bring cross barriers at the creative response to the violence, that is happening in the Middle East, especially among the Jewish people, and the Palestinians. And so, what you're about to see is one of their songs are Gavin's, they go all over the world and they, like start to gather people and they'll calm. And you'll hear this song, this recording is actually in three. Different languages is English Hebrew and Arabic. You'll see people. And I want you to pay attention to the faces that you see. They are mostly a Jewish. They are presumably Christian possibly, they are. They're together singing in their language and singing together and then the others language and see what happens. This is one days there on video.
So, it's powerful, isn't it? And it's even more powerful and I couldn't figure out how to get the closed caption on there. So, you may be searched for them and look out the cuz they always have the words kind of scrolling on there, but the words are powerful. They're singing about peace and they're like people, they represent people groups. That seem to be at Warren and conflict with each other all the time. And here there together in the same room singing together and they're unified theme. Paul can definitely get behind and it's a powerful. It's sounds that is changing and transforming people. The matter of people, the spirits of people That's why I think the question for us as we do to end this section the study of Ephesians has, you know, how are we supposed to sing with our life, right? Paul would say maybe that you're supposed to help bring about new creation and Anushka Manatee by singing it into existence. Sound is creative is actually creating something. Other than the simple tones. It's for some of them together that is pretty this new reality. So how are we supposed to sing with our life? What is it? How is it that we're supposed to tune in to God through prayer? Paul would say, you should pray all the time because this is how we connect with God through this different reality. That is around us all the time. How will you to enter god with prayer how you speak love the people. It's so powerful when you speak words of encouragement and love and like, out of nowhere, you do. It's awkward right there. Like what and you're like, no, I'm really glad that. I see you today. Happy that you're here right now. Speak words of encouragement. You're speaking something new that wasn't there before into reality, speak love into the world speak, peace into the world. We might draw images together, these two videos together by saying that there's this kind of creative resonance that happens when we are with the spirit. And we're resonating with the spirit, our spirit and the Holy Spirit. Happened, something new is made and something powerful happens. And so in any fusions this will study just about this up. It's been about this invitation into this new creation of all things has been launched when he experienced this apocalypse, this revelation of Jesus and this new creation. Paul is saying, is already here. I mean, it's not like, you know, complete not yet, but it's also here already. And when we do things like singing into seeing and showing love to people and doing the kinds of things that sound can transform matter into and when were resonating with god, with God's people. Something is happening. Paul can't explain it either. But something new happens, I want to say that we have become a cymatic Christian but that's Superman that's cymatics a change of sound on matter. So, what would you like to be a cymatic, Christian, right to use? Found our words are songs. Our Lives to speak something new into New Creation that's imitation for us. And that's what I encourage us to do, and find ways to do and Community together. The God be all the glory now and forever.
