Introduction
There are many people looking for peace. The whole Hippy movement sought peace, but did so without God and renounced His Law. In our area especially there is many that run to alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and vape as they try to deal with the stress of life. Perhaps you have noticed that in your own life you may have a similar pattern. Of course you may not have the seemingly as health hazardous answers but you may run to binge on food and sweets, instead of calling to the Prince of peace in your time of trouble.
Many of these substitutes for Jesus we run too don’t take care of the problem. They simply try to fill a need we have for God. They may help us forget for a short time, or mask the feelings, but they are not a solution. They tend to create complications.
D. Jesus is the one who brings real peace.
P. We ought to depend on Him to bring us peace rather than looking for substitutes.
T. This morning we will see three ways Jesus is our Prince of Peace: He is the Son unto us, the Servant for us, and the Savior for us.
1. The Prince of Peace is the Son born for us.
1. The Prince of Peace is the Son born for us.
Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and his name shall be called... The Prince of Peace.”
Explain
God the Son was made into a human for us. It was for your benefit and my benefit.
John 1:1“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
John 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
Hebrews 2:14 “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;” Hebrews 2:17–18 “Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.”
Because the Prince of Peace took on human flesh for us we can have help in our temptations.
How did Christ do this?
God the Son as the Prince of Peace grew up in submission to his parents and His heavenly Father’s will.
Luke 2:51–52 “And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”
Jesus lived in submission to the heavenly Father. John 5:30 “I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.”
Illustrate: When I am an adult I am going to....drink Diet Coke every day.
Jesus teaches us as the Son and Prince of Peace that we ought to not be fighting to be our own boss, but to live in submission to our God and Creator.
God the Son taught us how to live to glorify God.
Jesus’ teachings will give you a foundation to build your life upon. Matthew 7:24–25 “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.”
Jesus didn’t make up his own teachings. John 8:26 “I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.”
When purchasing a home you want to make sure the foundation is good. Jesus Christ is the foundation for a life that can withstand the storms of life.
Isaiah 48:17–18 “Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, Which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go. O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! Then had thy peace been as a river, And thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:”
Much like as a parent, if your kid is going to enjoy life they have to be obedient to you as a parent, for when they don’t you will probably issue some form of discipline whether it be grounding them or inflicting pain on the backside. Also your home will be tense instead of peaceful.
The parents who do not place boundaries for their children will find out the school, state, or their employer has boundaries which must be followed.
So we too who are sons and daughters by faith in Christ are foolish to think we can live in disobedience to God without consequences. James 4:7 “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Hebrews 12:6 “For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.”
If the Prince of Peace as the Son of God learned obedience and obeyed the Heavenly Father and his parents how much more do we need to follow his example.
Argue: Why did the Prince of Peace have to become a man?
Like us.
Adam and Eve sinned and brought death into the world soon after time began. When it happened God revealed there would be one of the seed of the woman who would defeat the serpent. The first Adam brought death upon the human race. There needed to be a second Adam without a sin nature. It was through Abraham’s family the second Adam came. Galatians 3:8 “And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.” Because mankind had a sin problem that they were helpless to remedy. A dirty rag cannot make itself clean, nor can a sinner make himself sinless.
The only way a second Adam could be born was a miraculous birth without a man. A birth that broke the laws of nature. Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, And shall call his name Immanuel.” Jesus was born a human without a sin nature. Throughout his entire life he never once sinned. Christ became like us to win us, but also so that we would know that he knows what it is like to be human.
Know us: We can’t make the excuse well God doesn’t know what I am going through.
Jesus came down to earth and experienced our world in all its sinfulness and brokenness so that he could be our helper.Jesus came down to earth and experienced our world in all its sinfulness and brokenness so that he could be our helper.
Hebrews 4:15“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Hebrews 5:8 “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;”

A man doesn’t experience child-birth a woman does. He cannot relate knowledgeably because He cannot nor will he ever have a child.
Nor do we know what it is like to be a bumblebee. Man has learned much about bees, but they have not experienced what it is like to be a bee.
Christ became a human, so he could bring us back to God.
Apply:
The Prince of peace became flesh, so he could offer me life in himself. 1 John 5:12 “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.”
The Prince of peace came because I was not good enough.
Isaiah 64:6 “But we are all as an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; And we all do fade as a leaf; And our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”
Romans 5:1 “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:”
The prince of peace is God’s fullfillment of His Promise.
T. The prince of peace came as a son unto us, but our text reveals he also came as a servant over us. In his first coming he comes as the suffering servant. In His second coming as Isaiah 9:6-7 reveals he will come as the Servant ruling over us.
2. The Prince of Peace is the Servant over us.
2. The Prince of Peace is the Servant over us.
Isaiah 9:6–7 “...And the government shall be upon his shoulder:...The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, Upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, To order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice From henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”
Explain
Jesus came the first time as a servant of all.
The second time as revealed in this verse shows, He comes as the Ruler over all. He will be a public servant. Politicians and government officials are public servants. Romans 13:4 “For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.”
Jesus is given the job as a King over a kingdom. He will rule in peace as all opposition will be eliminated.
The authority to judge came from God the Father. John 5:22–23 “For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.”
John 5:27 “And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.”
This was prophesied in the OT in Psalm 2:8. We see him exercise some of this power against the rebellious Egyptians in Exodus 12:12 when the Lord wipes out the firstborn.
He will execute justice and judgment for the people.
Do you feel neglected or oppressed? There are many who are being oppressed and mistreated. However, if you are living in obedience to God, God will make sure the injustices you suffer will one day be corrected.
However, we must beware because there are social injustices today that have actually called God’s Word and law unholy and oppressive. We must be in submission to the Word of the Servant over us otherwise his judgment will be upon us and the end result is that we will be found guilty of sin.
Jeremiah 23:5 “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.” Make sure the Bible guides your values, not your culture.

How is Christ, the Prince of Peace, a servant over us?
Authority originates with God. Rom 13 1 “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.”
He holds us accountable for what we do and say. Matt 12:35-37; 1 Cor. 5:10.
He gives peace and withholds peace
Jesus Giving peace
Of the Lord: Isaiah 48:18 “O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! Then had thy peace been as a river, And thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:”
Of Jesus: John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Philippians 4:9 “Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.”
Jesus withholding peace
Isaiah 48:22 “There is no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked.”
Revelation 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
When I fret and whine I have no peace, but when I surrender all to Him there is a joyful feast.
What good?
It seems like I have more difficulties when I try to submit to God.
He does what is right for the weak and helpless.
A major problem in our society is that the powerful abuse the weak. Jesus will judge righteously. Psalm 10:17–18 “Lord, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: Thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear: To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, That the man of the earth may no more oppress.”

Live realizing you will give account of yourself to God. Colossians 4:1 “Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.”
Whatever your position, you will stand accountable to how you used the authority entrusted to you to uphold God’s laws and govern yourself.
T. The Prince of peace is a son and servant, but most importantly He is the Savior.
3. The Prince of Peace is the Savior for us.
3. The Prince of Peace is the Savior for us.
Isaiah 9:6–7 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: And the government shall be upon his shoulder: And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, Upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, To order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice From henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”
Explain
You need to understand that the Devil want you at peace with God. He doesn’t care how He does it. He just wants to take you to hell with him. The Devil wants you to be distracted and trying to ignore your sin, or create some substitute for a worse sin so that you don’t feel as bad about it. The Devil wants you to believe that you are not all that bad, or that sin is really just an imagined thing pressed upon your poor conscience by religious prudes. You need to be liberated from the bondage and judgments of religious freaks and express yourself without guilt for who you are. Then there is even the point that the Devil would like you to believe that he doesn’t even exist. Whatever the case is with the Devil is not the case with a Holy God who loves mankind.
God doesn’t overlook sin and he deals with it seriously. God gave us the Son to be our Prince of Peace is the Savior. John 3:17 “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
God cannot overlook the breaking of his Law. Every big lie and little white lie will be judged by God. Every adultery whether physical or mental will be judged by God. Every theft no matter the value will be judged. Every disobedient act will be judged.
But Jesus interceded in our behalf when you and I were condemned for hell. Ephesians 2:14–15 “For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;” He also raced racial national and gender barriers. We all come equally to Christ as sinners needing Jesus. There are no first and second class Christians.
Isaiah 53:5 “But he was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: The chastisement of our peace was upon him; And with his stripes we are healed.” Jesus came down to earth and experienced our world in all its sinfulness and brokenness so that he could be our helper. Plain and simple Jesus heals and brings peace to broken lives.
His blood satisfied God’s just and holy wrath upon sin. 1 John 2:2 “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” However

Promised to the Jews. John 1:11–12 “He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”
I’m to bad. 1 Timothy 1:15 “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” Hebrews 7:25 “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”
I’m good enough. Romans 3:10 “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Revelation 21:6–8 “And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Recognize there are many substitutes for peace that will not satisfy.
Receive the Savior’s offer of peace with God through Him.
Rejoice in what Jesus did for you.
We all experience things that can cause us to worry and try to run to things that we think will bring relief when we really need to run to Jesus. Psalm 62:8 “Trust in him at all times; ye people, Pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.”
My friend Jesus wants to first and foremost deliver you from your sin. Matthew 1:21 “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
But he also is with us to help us through every situation you face. Hebrews 13:6 “So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” We may have things that disrupt our peace at times, but run back to Jesus and rest in Him.
verse 3: Jesus I am Resting Resting
Simply trusting thee, Lord Jesus,
I behold thee as thou art,
and thy love, so pure, so changeless,
satisfies my heart;
satisfies its deepest longings,
meets, supplies its ev'ry need,
compasseth me round with blessings:
thine is love indeed.

Conclusion:
Many options in our world today claim to give peace, but only offer a bandaid on a gaping hole that needs filled with the healing balm of the Prince of Peace. We can never right the sin we have with God. Jesus can. We can never have peace in this life apart from Christ. Seek my friend to be in obedience to Him. He is the Son given unto us. The Servant over us to which we do well to heed, and the Savior for you and I.
Will you give your life in complete submission to Him? Will you receive the greatest gift ever offered to mankind. He came down to be born unto us as the Prince of Peace. Make peace with God through Christ today.
