So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.”
And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.
Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child.
And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.
Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.
I. People of passion.
I. People of passion.
The english language does not effectively communicate the meaning of the word De’. The shepherds did not just simply go to see the child so that they could decide for themselves. They went with an extreme urgency.
They came to Jesus with urgency, and they left with his news in urgency.
They were men of passion.
There is little doubt that this was the most exciting moment of these shepherds lives. There was an angel in the heavens singing with a great host. Spreading news of a king born.
How could these men keep this message to themselves?
The news of Jesus is so powerful that the shepherds ran to tell the good news.
The apostles died horrible deaths but would not recant their faith.
Saints of old, burned and tortured. Kings and rulers have attempted to stop the news. Herod killed all of the babies. Yet, his name still stands and the gospel is still heralded around the world.
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
There is no earthy commission that can equal the call to share the gospel.
Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962), the world-famous violinist, earned a fortune with his concerts and compositions, but he generously gave most of it away. So, when he discovered an exquisite violin on one of his trips, he wasn’t able to buy it. Later, having raised enough money to meet the asking price, he returned to the seller, hoping to purchase that beautiful instrument. To his great dismay, it had been sold to a collector.
Kreisler made his way to the new owner’s home and offered to buy the violin. The collector said it had become his prized possession, and he would not sell it. Keenly disappointed, Kreisler was about to leave when he had an idea. “Could I play the instrument once more before it is consigned to silence?” he asked. Permission was granted, and the great virtuoso filled the room with such heart-moving music that the collector’s emotions were deeply stirred. “I have no right to keep that to myself,” he exclaimed. “It’s yours, Mr. Kreisler. Take it into the world, and let people hear it.”
We have a message to share. Our heavenly Father created us as exquisite instruments, and the beautiful music we are to make is the good news of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. We were made to be played.
I have experienced the good news. Have you?
Let us light the world with the news that Jesus lives and He’s coming again.
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
