Joshua 5:1-15
Joshua 5:1-15
1 When all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings who lived along the Mediterranean coast heard how the Lord had dried up the Jordan River so the people of Israel could cross, they lost heart and were paralyzed with fear because of them.
2 At that time the Lord told Joshua, “Make flint knives and circumcise this second generation of Israelites.”
3 So Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the entire male population of Israel at Gibeath-haaraloth.
4 Joshua had to circumcise them because all the men who were old enough to fight in battle when they left Egypt had died in the wilderness.
5 Those who left Egypt had all been circumcised, but none of those born after the Exodus, during the years in the wilderness, had been circumcised.
6 The Israelites had traveled in the wilderness for forty years until all the men who were old enough to fight in battle when they left Egypt had died. For they had disobeyed the Lord, and the Lord vowed he would not let them enter the land he had sworn to give us—a land flowing with milk and honey.
7 So Joshua circumcised their sons—those who had grown up to take their fathers’ places—for they had not been circumcised on the way to the Promised Land.
8 After all the males had been circumcised, they rested in the camp until they were healed.
9 Then the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the shame of your slavery in Egypt.” So that place has been called Gilgal to this day.
10 While the Israelites were camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, they celebrated Passover on the evening of the fourteenth day of the first month.
11 The very next day they began to eat unleavened bread and roasted grain harvested from the land.
12 No manna appeared on the day they first ate from the crops of the land, and it was never seen again. So from that time on the Israelites ate from the crops of Canaan.
13 When Joshua was near the town of Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with sword in hand. Joshua went up to him and demanded, “Are you friend or foe?”
14 “Neither one,” he replied. “I am the commander of the Lord’s army.” At this, Joshua fell with his face to the ground in reverence. “I am at your command,” Joshua said. “What do you want your servant to do?”
15 The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did as he was told.
In Respect to Time: Take these Nuggets and unpack it this week at home.
Nugget #1
kings who lived along the Mediterranean coast heard how the Lord had dried up the Jordan River so the people of Israel could cross, they lost heart and were paralyzed with fear because of them
4 Little children, you can be certain that you belong to God and have conquered them, for the One who is living in you is far greater than the one who is in the world.
Because they served the great one, Kings in that region where terrified of Gods People.
As they begin to cross over into the NEW, the enemies where terrified.

Nugget #2
the Lord told Joshua, “Make flint knives and circumcise this second generation of Israelites.”
They couldn’t go any further without having an established covenant with God
Many new age Christians don’t want covenant, Because it requires blood. (Jesus needs to make sure you got some skin in the game.)

Nugget # 3
After all the males had been circumcised, they rested in the camp until they were healed. 9 Then the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the shame of your slavery in Egypt.”
Once Covenant was established, He rolled away the reproach of being a slave..
1 There is no condemnation now for those who live in union with Christ Jesus.
2 For the law of the Spirit, which brings us life in union with Christ Jesus, has set me free from the law of sin and death.
shame: a feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behaviour.
2 dishonour.
3 a regrettable or unfortunate thing.
God Says, he rolled shame of being a slave away…( Question what where you once a slave to?) Aren’t glad he rolled it away?
12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,
13 To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?
14 Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD’S thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is.
15 Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day.
16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.
Nugget 4
10 While the Israelites were camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, they celebrated Passover on the evening of the fourteenth day of the first month.
It’s Important to point out that this was the first time the passover was celebrated since they left Egypt.
And also if they where alive back then they where very young, and this is technically something totally New…
Note: They Did it the same way first generation did it.
We have lost a since of heritage in family as Christians. Because the last 3 generations told us they are not going to do it like they did it..
(and we see how thats been working)
Jesus replaced the Passover with Holy Communion. Both of these celebrations are considered the highest form of Worship.
Lets put this together:
The Children of Isreal Crossed over into The Promise, and the water parts kinda like the red Sea and the news gets out! “Those slaves who where promised our land 40 years ago are here”
God instructs Joshua once they cross over the first thing that need to be done is circumcision, You can’t expect God to walk with you and your not in Covenant with him.
God Rolls away the Reproach/shame of them being a slave.
Once the Restoration takes place its time for Celebration! So God reintroduces the Passover.
But Nugget 5 is what we really came to encourage you about!!
Nugget 5
11 And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.
12 And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
The Texts tells us the following day after the Passover The ate Old Corn of the land.
Define: Old Money Vs New Money
In Canaan that was old Corn, but for some wandering homeless former slaves that was New Corn..
See God will bless a man to purchase a nice car drive it for two years without dogging it out and putting a lot of miles on it and you then go and purchase it.
To the man selling it, its his old car but too you its your new car.
Wait I think some of us still don’t get it, You Single folk are someone’s old boyfriend or old girlfriend, But when you get married your going to be your spouse’s new Wife or new Husband Deacon Courtney.

Everything New
The text says The day after they get the Old new Corn, the Manna Ceased….. This is something new for them, God provided Manna for years, it was Gods welfare system.
But the moment the crossed over into wealth they could no longer expect handouts.
See, The moment you graduate too next levels, People, Places and Thangs not things Thangs have to say behind.
So don’t get mad when God stops stuff in your life it’s because he knows you won’t stop on your own. The manna ceased….
You will advance to a level that the people places and things you depended on will be removed, like a rug pulled from up under your feet. And you going to have to fend for yourself. When my mother died, it hurt but I kept living and didn’t miss a beat. With my family with my ministry. I had learned how to live without my mother’s manna…… before she died.
Can I Tell You: Not Much Longer Now Things Are about To Shift Quickly in your Life…..
