RIGHTEOUSNESS REIGNS

Main Idea: The righteousness of God must reign in our lives without restriction.

Key Question: Are you consistent in your living out God’s standards?

1. Righteousness reigns through His Word. (v. 14-15)

John 7:14–15 NKJV
Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught. And the Jews marveled, saying, “How does this Man know letters, having never studied?”
Psalm 119:105 NKJV
Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
2 Timothy 3:16–17 NKJV
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2. Righteousness reigns through the author. (v. 16-17)

John 7:16–17 NKJV
Jesus answered them and said, “My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me. If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority.
John 12:49 NKJV
For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.
John 14:10 NKJV
Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.

3. Righteousness reigns through our lives. (v. 17-18)

John 7:17–18 NKJV
If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority. He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him.
John 14:15 NKJV
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.
1 John 5:3 NKJV
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

4. Righteousness reigns without hypocrisy. (v. 19-24)

John 7:19–24 NKJV
Did not Moses give you the law, yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill Me?” The people answered and said, “You have a demon. Who is seeking to kill You?” Jesus answered and said to them, “I did one work, and you all marvel. Moses therefore gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath. If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses should not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath? Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”
Proverbs 24:23 NKJV
These things also belong to the wise: It is not good to show partiality in judgment.
James 2:1 NKJV
My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality.
