Part 7: Called by His Name – Living as a People Set Apart

Key Scripture: 2 Chronicles 7:14 – "If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

Introduction: Living as God's Set-Apart People

Being called by God’s name means we belong to Him and represent Him on earth. However, this identity also comes with a responsibility—to live in a way that is holy, obedient, and different from the world.
This lesson will explore:
What it means to be "called by His name"
How God calls His people to holiness and obedience
How being set apart impacts the world
Practical ways to live as a holy and distinct people

I. Historical and Biblical Context

Authorship & Date: 2 Chronicles was written by Ezra around 450-425 B.C., reflecting on Israel’s history.
Audience: The Jewish people returning from exile, learning to live again as God’s chosen nation.
Purpose: To remind Israel of their covenant identity and their responsibility to live righteously before God.

Background of 2 Chronicles 7:14

This verse is part of God’s response to Solomon’s prayer after dedicating the temple.
Israel was to be set apart from other nations by worshiping the one true God.
If they turned to sin, God would discipline them—but if they repented, He would restore them.

Holiness means living differently, not isolating ourselves.
Example: Joseph fled temptation but remained in society (Genesis 39:7-12).

We are called to share Jesus with confidence.
