A Confessional Test

will Peters confession hold up against the prophecy of impending crucifixion?
will the disciples or even the Jews remember Jesus promise about the sign of Jonah?
Matthew 10 all about discipleship - starts with confession v.32 and verified by love and obedience
also, who does Jesus say this persecution will come from?
Peters test
he seems to hear only the suffering part, not the resurrection part
if that is the case then we are to be as dismayed as Peter - 1 Cor. 15:14
1 Corinthians 15:14 LSB
14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.
so what promises is Peter living on - just the promise of trouble without the hope or vindication, resurrection, eternal glory?
Jesus lives on the whole of God’s word - Matthew 4:4 “4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’””
Hebrews 12:2 LSB
2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
v.23 - Peter essentially speaks of subverting God’s plan, much like Satan did in Matthew 4 -

God’s interests

Isaiah 53:10 LSB
10 But Yahweh was pleased To crush Him, putting Him to grief; If You would place His soul as a guilt offering, He will see His seed, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of Yahweh will succeed in His hand.
