This account of the Philippian jailer is one of my favorite stories, one that I heard no long after Jesus saved me. I remember with joy hearing the simplicity of the Gospel, that all one needs to do to be saved is simply believe Jesus Christ.
Unlike some of you, I did not grow up in church or in a Christian family. I did not know who Adam and Eve were, or any of the amazing accounts of the Bible including David and Goliath.
Reading about the missionary efforts of Paul, and his willingness to share the gospel despite the suffering it brought, was so challenging to me. And now, 27 years later, this simplicity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is still astounding.

I. Suffering with Joy- 16:25

One of the most remarkable parts of this story, besides the gospel, is the response of Paul and Silas.
When Faith is Forbidden, Chinese Pastor, 10–11

II. Sovereignty and Circumstance- 16:26–28

God is able to intervene in a variety of ways
Here He uses an earthquake
Notice the details- “all the doors opened and everyone’s chains were loosed”
Roman guards would be killed if prisoners escaped (and he doubly so, considering the substantial incarceration, Acts 16:24)

III. Surprise and Question- 16:29–30

The jailer is astounded, and asks Paul a question that will change his and his household’s lives forever.

IV. Salvation and Joy- 16:31–34

When Faith is Forbidden, Haji, 25
The Gospel of Jesus Christ brings joy even in the midst of horrible, painful situations.
