The legend of pony express.

The pony express only exited for 19 months. Yet, from April 3, 1860 to November 18, 1861 it made a lasting legacy in the U.S. The riders would travel up to 75-100 miles per day. They would often ride with nothing more than a long sleeve shirt, knife, and a revolver to make their rides quicker and safer when riding through Indian territory. Often switching horses every 10 miles. When looking for riders the S.F add stated, “Wanted- young, skinny, wiry fellows fellows not over 18. Must be expert riders willing to risk death daily. Orphans preferred.”

The expectation of service.

We are called to serve God with our life and not to serve God for the betterment of our lives.

Obedience

Deuteronomy 13:4 NKJV
You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.

Gratitude

1 Samuel 12:24 NKJV
Only fear the Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.

Gladness

Psalm 100:2 NKJV
Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.

Forgiveness not Guilt

Isaiah 6:6–8 NKJV
Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth with it, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged.” Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

Motivated by Humility

John 13:12–16 NKJV
So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.

Motivated by Love

Galatians 5:13 NKJV
For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
