Bible Reading Week 14 (1st Sunday)
This Week’s Theme: The Sign of His Light
Word for the Week is Holy Spirit: The co-equal and co-eternal Spirit with the Father and the Son, who inspired Scripture and brings new life to the people of God. The Spirit of God is often portrayed in Scripture in terms of “breath”, “life” or “wind”, indicating his role in sustaining and bringing life to God’s creation.
Memory verse: Matthew 5:16 (NKJV) “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Sermon Focus: Only through Jesus can we truly see
Sermon Passage: John 9:1-11, 30-33
1 Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth.
2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.
4 I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.
5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
6 When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay.
7 And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.
8 Therefore the neighbors and those who previously had seen that he was blind said, “Is not this he who sat and begged?”
9 Some said, “This is he.” Others said, “He is like him.” He said, “I am he.”
10 Therefore they said to him, “How were your eyes opened?”
11 He answered and said, “A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received sight.”
30 The man answered and said to them, “Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes!
31 Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.
32 Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind.
33 If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.”
So You Can See!
So You Can See!
A woman once lost her job unexpectedly and felt devastated. After weeks of searching, she chanced upon her true calling as a teacher. Reflecting on her journey, she humorously shared, 'Sometimes, it takes a detour for God to set us on the right path!' This reminds us that God often has bigger plans, even when we can't see them in our moment of confusion.
I. Purpose in the Pain
I. Purpose in the Pain
1 Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth.
2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
PAIN IS UNPLEASANT
PAIN IS HURTFUL
PAIN IS TROUBLING
PAIN IS CHALLENGING BUT THERE IS A PURPOSE IN THE PAIN
GOD USES IT TO DISCIPLINE
GOD USES IT TO DISCIPLINE
WHO SINNED? WAS THE QUESTION. THIS WAS THE UNDERSTANDING? LIKE JOB’S FRIENDS.
5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
6 For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”
7 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?
8 But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.
9 Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?
10 For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness.
11 Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
THE PSALMIST DECLARED IN Psalm 119:71 “71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes.”
THE AFFLICTION DROVE HIM TO THE WORD OF GOD
HAVE YOU ALLOWED THE PAIN TO STEER YOU TO THE LORD, HIS WORD, HIS WORK
Psalm 119:75 “75 I know, O Lord, that Your judgments are right, And that in faithfulness You have afflicted me.”
GOD USES IT TO DISPLAY
GOD USES IT TO DISPLAY
3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.
3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;
4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope.
5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

GOD WORKS IN DIFFERENT WAYS
GOD’S WORKS ARE SOMETIMES INSTANTLY

TWO BLIND MEN
30 And behold, two blind men sitting by the road, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!”
34 So Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.

22 And when Herodias’ daughter herself came in and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, “Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”
23 He also swore to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half my kingdom.”
24 So she went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist!”
25 Immediately she came in with haste to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”
WITH US
WITH US
WHICH IS THE CASE HERE IN THE TEXT.
6 When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay.
7 And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.
CHRIST MADE A SALVE OUT OF THE SALAVA AND DIRT.
6 When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva;
CHRIST ANOINTED HIS EYES WITH THE SALVE
and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay.
LOOK AT VERSE 7
CHRIST COMMANDED HIM
SAYING, “GO, WASH IN THE POOL OF SILOAM. TRANSLATED “SENT”
CHRIST SOMETIMES CALLS FOR US TO ACT
No Water for the army until ditches were dug
No Oil until the vessels were gathered
No Healing until the leper had dipped seven times
No Harvest until the ground had been broken upTHE BLIND MAN OBEYED AND CAME BACK SEEING
So he went and washed, and came back seeing.
OTHERS RECOGNIZED THAT HIS EYES ARE OPENED
21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;
24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

THE JEWS CALLED JESUS A SINNER
THE MAN RESPONDED IN VERSE 25
25 He answered and said, “Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.”
THEY ALSO RESPONDED BY SAYING THEY ARE MOSES’ DISCIPLES AND DON’T KNOW WHERE JESUS WAS FROM.
