John 12:12–19 NASB 2020
12 On the next day, when the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, indeed, the King of Israel!” 14 Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: 15do not Fear, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, seated on a donkeys colt.” 16 These things His disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him, and that they had done these things for Him. 17 So the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him. 18 For this reason also the people went to meet Him, because they heard that He had performed this sign. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are not accomplishing anything; look, the world has gone after Him!”
This is the word of God for the people of God
Are you ready for the message God has for us today?
What is unfolding in our passage is so theologically beautiful. — There is so much in this
One thing often missed is that it is a fulfillment of what it means to be the Lamb of God

The Passover Lamb

Exodus 12:2–3 NASB 2020
2 “This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year for you. 3 Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, ‘On the tenth of this month they are, each one, to take a lamb for themselves, according to the fathers’ households, a lamb for each household.
The month in reference here is Abib later known as Nisan.
It is the first month of the Jewish new year.
So they are to select a lamb that is without defect, spotless or blemish — Exodus 12:5-8
Exodus 12:5–8 NASB 2020
5 ‘Your lamb shall be an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats. 6 You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel is to slaughter it at twilight. 7 Moreover, they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. 8 They shall eat the flesh that same night, roasted with fire, and they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.
This lamb was taken into the house to live with them for to live with them until it was offered on Passover.
It was to insure that the lamb stayed healthy, without defect, spotless, and blemish.
Then on the 15th day was to offered up.

The Lamb of God

John the baptist declared — John 1:29
John 1:29 NASB 2020
29 The next day he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
The lamb for Passover was perfect — Deuteronomy 15:21
Deuteronomy 15:21 NASB 2020
21 But if it has any impairment, such as a limp, or blindness, or any serious impairment, you shall not sacrifice it to the Lord your God.
For three years Jesus presented Himself in His ministry as perfect — 1 Peter 1:19
1 Peter 1:19 NASB 2020
19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
The 10th day of Nisan became known as the day of the lamb.
Notice with me John 12:1
John 12:1 NASB 2020
1 Therefore, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.
Notice what happens then in verse 12, “On the next day”
Six days before Passover would be the 9th of Nisan making the next day the 10th day.
1,500 years after the Exodus passover, on the very day lambs were coming into Jerusalem for passover, Jesus enters Jerusalem.
Conclusion
Jesus is the true sacrifice the fulfillment of what all the Old Testament sacrifices looked forward to!
Think about it God brought His lamb to House of God, to Jerusalem, to the place of His dwelling.
The lambs brought to Jerusalem had to be sacrificed on Passover by those who dwelt in Jerusalem.
So too, the lamb of God had to come to the house of God the blessing of salvation could come!
In five days Jesus will die on the cross, that lamb sacrifice for the sins of the world.
Killed by the very ones He came to save!
