Scripture Invitation

Beloved, as we gather in the presence of our Lord and Savior, I invite you to turn with me to the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 28, verses 18 through 20.
In this powerful passage, we find the very heart of our calling as followers of Christ - the Great Commission.

Bible Passage

Matthew 28:18–20 CSB
Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Introduction

My brothers and sisters, as we continue our journey of becoming fruitful people, we have explored the importance of preparing the soil of our hearts, embracing the power of prayer, experiencing the strength of spiritual fellowship, and cultivating a heart of worship.
Today, we embark on the next crucial step: embracing the power of discipleship and service.

Establish the Setting

In the days following His resurrection, Jesus appeared to His disciples on a mountain in Galilee.
It was a moment of great significance, as the risen Savior was about to entrust His followers with the most important mission in history - the Great Commission.
The disciples had witnessed the crucifixion, experienced the joy of the resurrection, and now stood in the presence of their Lord, eager to receive His final instructions.
In this pivotal moment, Jesus spoke words that would forever shape the destiny of the church and the world.
Just as the disciples stood at a crossroads, we too find ourselves on the precipice of a mighty move of God.
Revival is on the horizon, but it requires our active participation.
It demands that we embrace our calling as disciples and servants of Christ.
So I ask you today, church, what does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus Christ?
Is it merely a title we wear, or is it a life-transforming commitment?

The Biblical Mandate for Discipleship

First, we must understand the biblical mandate for discipleship.
W”e must come to understand that Discipleship is not an option; it's a command."
In the Great Commission, Jesus makes it clear that making disciples is not a suggestion but a divine imperative.
The word "disciple" means "learner" or "follower."
As disciples of Christ, we are called to learn from Him, follow His example, and obey His teachings.
This is not a passive process but an active pursuit of Christlikeness.
"True disciples are not just believers, but reproducers."
Discipleship is not just about personal growth; it's about multiplication.
We are called to make disciples who will, in turn, make more disciples, creating a ripple effect of transformation.

The Transformative Power of Service

Secondly, we must recognize the transformative power of service.
As disciples of Christ, we are called to be His hands and feet, serving others with compassion and love.
Service is not just an optional activity; it is an essential part of our spiritual growth.
As we serve others, we are transformed from the inside out.
We learn humility, empathy, and selflessness - the very qualities that characterized the life of Jesus.
Mother Teresa, a woman who embodied sacrificial service, once said, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love."
Whether it's feeding the hungry, visiting the sick, or comforting the brokenhearted, every act of service matters in the eyes of God.

Overcoming Obstacles to Effective Discipleship

We must also acknowledge and overcome the obstacles to effective discipleship.
In our fast-paced, self-centered world, it can be easy to neglect the call to make disciples.
We may find ourselves too busy, too comfortable, or too afraid to step out of our comfort zones.
To overcome the barriers to effective discipleship, we must:
Prioritize our relationship with God
Cultivate a teachable spirit
Be willing to step out in faith
Invest in the lives of others
As we intentionally remove the obstacles and embrace our calling as disciple-makers, we will experience the joy of seeing lives transformed by the power of the gospel.

Practical Steps for Becoming a Disciple-Maker

Finally, we must explore practical steps for becoming a disciple-maker.
The servant of the Lord tells us, "Every true disciple is born into the kingdom of God as a missionary."
Discipleship is not just about receiving; it's about giving.
Becoming a disciple-maker involves:
Praying for opportunities to share your faith
Building authentic relationships with others
Sharing your testimony of God's transforming power
Teaching others the truths of God's Word
Walking alongside others in their spiritual journey
As we take these practical steps, we become conduits of God's grace, instruments in His hands for the transformation of lives and communities.
Church, as we prepare for the mighty move of God that is to come, let us not neglect the power of discipleship and service.
For it is through our obedience to the Great Commission that we partner with God in His redemptive work.
It is through our willingness to serve that we demonstrate the love of Christ to a hurting world.

Closing & Appeal

As I close this message, I ask each of us tonight, Will you embrace your calling as a disciple and servant of Christ?
Will you allow the Holy Spirit to empower you to make disciples and impact lives?
For when we say yes to discipleship, When we say yes to service, When we say yes to the Great Commission, Revival is unleashed!
Can you hear the cry of the lost?
Can you see the brokenness of our world?
Can you feel the urgency of the hour?
It's time for the church to rise up, To take our place as disciple-makers, To be the hands and feet of Jesus!
For when we go and make disciples, Strongholds are shattered, Darkness is dispelled, Lives are transformed!
So let us embrace our calling, Let us be the disciples and servants God has called us to be!
When we live as disciples, When we serve with passion, When we obey the Great Commission, The world will take notice!
For there is power in discipleship, There is transformation in service, There is revival in obedience!
So come, let us go and make disciples, Let us serve with furver, Let us prepare the way for revival!
For the glory of God and the transformation of lives, Let us be disciples and servants of the Most High!
