If you have your Bibles please turn to Matthew 17:19-20
Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
This morning we are going to talk about big mountain moving prayers. This is a sermon that I have wanted to do for awhile but I was trying to find the right time and what better time than with the kids.
What does prayer mean ?
Christian Prayer: an offering up of our desires unto God, for things agreeable to his will, in the name of Christ, with confession of our sins, and thankful acknowledgement of his mercies” (Westminster Shorter Catechism)
We are to pray all the time right. If we are not talking to God and reading the Bible how can we know His will? We can’t possibly know that if we aren’t talking to Him. Most of us have smart phones or GPS in our cars. In order for the GPS satellites to work we need to have a constant signal with them. That is how they are able to tell you where you are. Well we can’t know where we are if we are not in constant communication with God.
He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’ “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’ ”
And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
Jesus says here that we need to cry out day and night. Let’s see what Paul says here
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Prayer continually, we need to always go to God
How to Pray
P: Praise
R: Repent
A: Ask
Y: Yield
Let’s look at the How Jesus Teaches us to pray
“This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
So with the faith of a mustard seed, and when we are praying for something that lines up with God’s will and the Bible. We can move mountains. So I want everyone to pick a rock. You hold onto to the rock. When God answers that pray, I want you to bring that rock back. With faith mountains can move in your life.
Let us pray
