Jesus shows and example of great leadership. One that we are to follow. Jesus shows who is the greatest. The greatest serving, Jesus said if you know blessed are you if you do them.
Let’s take it one verse at a time:
Verse 1 It is just before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knows his hour has come to depart out of the world to his father – Jesus had loved and loved to the end his own.
Verse 2. The devil had already put in to the heart of Judas to betray Jesus (Jesus knows this)
Verse 3 but Jesus knows that God the father had put all things in to Jesus hands. – and that Jesus was going back to God, who had sent him.
Verse 4-5. Knowing this Jesus gets up and gets ready to wash the feet of the disciples including Judas that will betray him. Begins to wash the disciple’s feet,
Verse 6. Peter’s objection, Lord Why are you washing my feet? Verse 7 Peter, you don’t understand, - now you will later. Verse 8 You shall never wash my feet, - Jesus if I don’t you are not mine/have a share with me, - Peter then say well wash all of me, - Jesus well you have taken a bath, you just need your feet cleaned, - then you are clean. But not all are clean, - 11. Because Jesus knewwho was going to betray him.
Verse 12 Jesus gets back to his place, and asks them a question: Do you understand what I have done for you? Verse 13. I am your teacher and Lord- yes I am, verse 14. If I then have done this lowest task for you, you ought to wash each other’s feet. 15 I have given you this example that you should do just as I have done to you. 16 amen, amen – A servant is not greater that his master, - nor is a messenger greater that the one who send him. (Jesus -God and Us and Jesus).
17 if you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
18 Not all of you I know whom I have chosen. The scripture will be fulfilled, psalm – who eat with me will lift his heal against me.
19. Jesus said I tell you now before so you might believe, that I am he… messiah, Christ the savior, the King, - the suffering servant, eternal God, wonderful councilor,
20 the encouragement to live a life as send by Jesus. – Amen, Amen, Whoever, receives the one I send, receives me, and whoever receives me, receives the one who send me God.
What about you?
Are there tasks that are beneath you? Jobs, tasks, and what are they? And why are the beneath you?
(Christ has served me there for I can serve other with Joy knowing that I am in Christ).

Jesus shows and example of great leadership. One that we are to follow. Jesus shows who is the greatest. The greatest serving,
Jesus said if you know blessed are you if you do them.
What do you need to know? To obey God? To sever God and others?
That God has in Christ given you all that you need, to live the life God has for you and walk in the good works that God has laid out for you to walk in. – The question is do you know this? Not, just information, not knowledge, but in wisdom, - something you know, and do as Jesus said in the text blessed are you if you do verse 17. (No just knowledge but doing what Jesus said)
Jesus as an example washing the disciple feet as an example, humble servant was the greatest of all, - did the lowliest job, - a way of serving – understand of God, firm in Christ, we can serve, and not need to be served, - we can be humble and humble our self like Jesus did to avoid pride, and arrogance, and power to corrupt us and give us less understanding and compassion for people. Our church is so small, and we all help one another, great, do we serve as Jesus did? With his heart and understanding or I am I proud when I serve and what people to see it, look who humble I am, I serve and wash peoples feet, -or is it from a joy in Jesus, that we humble serve God and one another?
Jesus said that whoever receives the one I send, received Him and God that send him. – That when we go to people that God has send us to in Christ, the ones that[KB1] [KB2] responded will receive Jesus and God the father
If you are moved by the Holy Spirt, to want to wash some ones feet, it is possible, I set up I the back that you can do that. – I know this can be cultural challenge – but If the Lord leads, I would say follow, and for others we will have about 5 min with soft music – you can pray talk to God, make ready for communion, - enjoy this time of worship and fellowship with God and one another.
Sermon Title: Jesus Knows — (John 13:1–20)
Key Question: What does Jesus’ knowledge lead Him to do?
1. Jesus Knows
His Mission: “His hour had come…” (v.1) – Jesus knew His time to die and return to the Father was now.
His Father's Plan: “The Father had given all things into His hands…” (v.3) – Jesus is in full control.
His Betrayer: “Jesus knew who was going to betray Him…” (v.11) – Even with betrayal ahead, Jesus moves in love.
➤ What do we learn about Jesus? -
2. Jesus Loves and Serves (vv.4–11)
Jesus rises, lays aside His outer garment, and takes the role of a servant.
Washes the disciples' feet – including Judas, who would betray Him.
Peter protests, but Jesus says:
“If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.”
This is more than hygiene—it’s a symbol of cleansing and belonging to Christ. Jesus death and resurrection.
➤ Do we allow Jesus to wash us—to cleanse us, even when we feel unworthy or stubborn?
3. Jesus Teaches by Example (vv.12–17)
After finishing, Jesus asks:
“Do you understand what I have done for you?”
He is their Teacher and Lord, and yet He served.
He says: “I have given you an example… you also should do just as I have done to you.”
True greatness is serving others in humility.
Verse 17: “If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.”
➤ Knowing isn't enough. The blessing comes in doing. Knowing Jesus means following His example.
4. Jesus Points to the Greater Plan (vv.18–20)
Not all are clean – one will betray Him (Psalm 41:9).
Jesus tells them before it happens so that they’ll believe He is I Am (v.19).
Verse 20:
“Whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”
➤ All Christians are sent by Jesus. therefore people can see Jesus in us, by the power of the Holy spirt and see that Jesus is God – we are called to represent Jesus and reflect His humility and truth.
Reflection & Application
What did Jesus know?
His time
The Father’s will
His betrayer
And yet He loved and served to the end
Do we serve with that same heart?
Are there jobs we think are “beneath us”?
Do we serve to be seen—or because we are loved by Christ?
Christ served us in love. That frees us to serve others with joy and humility.
“Blessed are you if you do them.” — So, it is all about what I do, - No this is not a set of rules to fulfill but if you do blessing comes, -
Final Challenge
(Do you believe that) Christ has given you all you need to live a life of obedience and joyful service?
Jesus knew who He was, where He was going, and who was about to betray Him—and He still served with love.
So, we too—in Christ, filled with His love and secure in our identity—can serve one another with humility. Because of Jesus life death, all his work, - The gospel is that Jesus has made a way, for us in him to love God and serve others in Jesus strength by the power of the Holy Spirt.
