After an Emotional Rollercoaster
After an Emotional Rollercoaster
The disciples I believe are going through what we would call, a time of sadness, a valley. They were living with a struggle. They had been on a roller coaster of emotions the last few weeks with the death and resurrection of their friend whom they spent the past three years with, day in and day out. They did life together. They dropped everything they knew three years prior to follow after this man. To learn from him. To travel their world and tell of the Father's love. To witness firsthand the miracles. To see him weep. To see him laugh. To see him teaching. To touch his cloak. And then he was gone. He died a death he didn't deserve. They abandoned him. They left him. They cried bitter tears. Then they saw him. and Jesus spoke them and then he vanished. Then he appeared to them again, and now again.
I wonder how many of us can relate to this type of roller coaster of emotions?
How do you respond?
The disciples responded by
1. They stayed in community - They stayed together. We were not meant to walk the journey alone. We are together for a reason, not by chance. Even when it was hard they stayed together as community. They didn't run.
2. doing something that was comfortable to them.
This is always a bad thing. there are healthy comforts. When our world is a roller coaster of emotions, it is needed to do something that grounds you. A Healthy Hobbie-
3.Take comfort in the nothingness for at the right time the Lord will make a way. The disciples fished all night with out a single bite, a single tug at the net. I imagine still waters, the gentle lul of the boat was found to be soothing and the occasional lap of water on the side of the boat reminded you that you were still alive. Your mind was free to wander and shut down from the emotional roller coaster.
4. At the right time, The Lord gives you the word and it is time to come back for a different kind of nourishment, Jesus fed them food.
5. Jesus fixed Peters gaze on what was ahead. He pivoted his gaze from the emotional rollercoaster of the past few weeks, and in the next portion read Jesus asking Peter if he loved him. and then told him to feed his sheep. and he did this three times.
